Sawtooth Software, together with Sylvan Learning and Full Circle Research Co. are pleased to announce the 2017 Sawtooth Software Marketing Analytics Consulting Challenge! We are seeking up to twelve university teams to participate in both phases of the competition (though many more universities may participate in just Phase I of the competition). Current confirmed teams for both phases are: The Ohio State University, Michigan State University, Brigham Young University, University of Utah, and James Madison University.
The subject matter is a real business problem supplied by Sylvan Learning in the online learning space to be solved using Sawtooth Software’s conjoint analysis (CBC) plus other survey research techniques and analytics/software packages of your choice. The culminating phase of the competition will be held March 17-18 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
The competition will take place over a 3-month period. Phase I: during January-February, student teams will conduct primary research using Sawtooth Software's Discover-CBC survey analytics platform (we will grant student copies if you don’t already have a license) with self-sourced convenience samples. Each university will identify a winning team. Because of the relatively large amount of work involved with this case study competition, we suggest incorporating the competition within a university course. Most student teams will consist of graduate-level students, though undergraduate student teams are also invited to participate.
Universities may participate in various ways in this competition. They may just coordinate with Sawtooth Software to use its Discover-CBC software platform and conduct Phase I within-school competitions (with no travel or participation in Phase II). Regarding Phase II participation, there is a limited opportunity for up to 12 universities to send their winning student teams (made up of 3 to 5 individuals) and advisors to compete in Salt Lake City, where first place receives $3000, second place $2000, and third place receives $1000.
Universities participating in Phase II of the competition are expected to sponsor and fully fund the travel for the academic advisor and student teams to attend the final competition. During March, winning teams will field their studies using panel sample provided by Full Circle Research Co. and will conduct final analysis. The team presentations will be judged by a panel including Rebecca Cunningham (Sr. Manager of Consumer Insights) of Sylvan Learning. Students will also participate in additional classes and hear keynote speeches at the event.
