Frequently Asked Questions


How quickly can I get the software?
If you call us with your credit card information, we can often process the order within an hour and email you license codes and a download link. For established customers, we don't need to receive payment prior to delivering the software. You can use our online shopping cart, or you can call in your order. Once you email or fax a signed order form, we email you the download link and user codes. (For new customers, upfront payment may be required, via credit card, check, or wire transfer).

Am I charged an annual or per study fee?
Individual license purchases are a one-time licensing fee. Our subscription license option lasts for one year.

Do I receive technical support?
Yes. You receive free, unlimited technical support with the purchase of any of our systems. Technical support is provided Monday through Friday, from 7:30AM to 5:30PM Mountain Standard Time.

Is documentation included with the software?
Yes. We have extensive manuals that install with the software which cover all aspects of our products, including examples, sample questionnaires and tutorials. In addition to the PDF manual, indexed and searchable help files are also available. We also set the F1 key to be context sensitive, so if you are looking at a particular setting and want more information, pressing F1 will take you to the specific spot in the indexed help files on that topic.

Are upgrades free?
Many of the enhancements we make to our products are free. These free updates are available to all users for downloading from our website. Major upgrades which add significant value to the product usually carry an upgrade fee, typically 25% to 40% of the original purchase price.

How are the licenses arranged?
We sell "seat" type licenses. A license may be installed on multiple machines for one user’s exclusive use. A second option allows a license to be installed on a single machine for multiple people's (non-simultaneous) use. The subscription option licenses up to 10 people at a time.

What happens if I purchase a limited variable system and need additional capacity later?
You get full credit for your previous purchase toward higher capacity systems of the same version number.

How do I decide which of the Sawtooth Software conjoint products to use for my study?
This is a such a popular issue that we have developed an interactive advisor to help you decide which method might be best for your specific research situation. We’ve also written a short article on this subject called "Which Conjoint Method Should I Use?" available for downloading from our Technical Papers library.

How easy are your conjoint analysis systems to use? What kind of background or experience should I have?
These systems are designed to let research analysts who are not necessarily specialists in statistics conduct successful conjoint research. Our conjoint systems manage the complexities of study design, utility calculation and market simulations. To successfully use our conjoint products, individuals should be comfortable with PCs and have a good understanding of basic market research statistics.

Those trained in statistics will appreciate how much time they can save using our software, and the robust results.

If I need additional help designing or analyzing my conjoint study, where can I turn?
There are a number of resources. Our manuals provide tutorials and general guidelines. Training seminars and conferences are available. We'll also be glad to offer general guidance through our free technical support line.
