Marius Orth studies transport economics in the master's program at the Technical University of Dresden with a focus on transportation policy, new mobility, as well as information and spatial economics.

The ubiquitous availability of portable internet-based digital technologies, such as smartphones or smartwatches, is changing traditional business models. Coupled with the need to make the transport sector more sustainable and efficient, especially in urban areas, several trends have emerged in the past that have changed or are expected to change our mobility.

One such trend is Mobility as a Service. Mostly it is understood as a concept whose goal is to create a digital platform on which intermodal offers can be bundled across all transport modes and between different mobility service providers, regardless of whether they are public, private, traditional, or innovative. Customers can then book monthly bundles with a defined volume of transport services, depending on their requirements. Mobility as a Service in a city or region is coordinated by so-called brokers. One of the biggest challenges for these brokers is the optimal composition of those bundles. In other words, how much public transport, bike and car sharing, etc. can be offered for a certain price per month.

Marius's master thesis uses choice-based conjoint to find possible transportation bundles in the East German metropolis of Leipzig. To obtain a large sample, Marius is sending out his survey via the Leipzig's public transportation network.
