Margin Top/Bottom for Grid Questions

that is how it look before I used a grid question:
Subjects could enter numbers between 1-9 (I used HTML input tags)

Now I changed it to grid question with combo boxes

I moved the grid question into a HTML table using java script.
$(window).on('load', function(){
                <td  id="q1"></td>

As you can see there is a lot of unused spaces (top and bottom). Is there any chance to reduce that to a minimum?

I don't have enough information to reproduce your problem, but the fix most likely requires getting a CSS selector to the problematic rows and reducing the margin or padding values.  Something akin to this:

#q1 td {
    padding-top: 4px;
    padding-bottom: 4px;
    margin-top: 4px;
    margin-bottom: 4px;
DidnĀ“t work :(

I have a free format question with a table.
I have two grid questions (q1+q2)
To move each of my grid questions to the correct postion in my table I used the java script above.

Now I am stucked with having lots of unused space above and at the bottom of each grid questions. That is annoying and I want to reduce that space to a minimum.

I also thought to apply CSS, but I didnt get it to work.
What is the full HTML of the free format question?  Is there other CSS or JS on the page?  Any other settings or styles that might be affecting this?
