Menu-Based Choice Workshop

Orlando, Florida, USA

January 28-29, 2021

On January 28-29, 2021 in Orlando, Florida, Bryan Orme, President of Sawtooth Software, will present a two-day Menu-Based Choice (MBC) workshop. This course is intended for those with a strong background in discrete choice and econometric modeling. During the workshop you will learn about MBC, work with practice datasets, and participate in a modeling challenge where you compete with other participants to fit actual holdout data. You will receive an evaluation copy of Sawtooth Software's MBC software to use for 90 days (for non-commercial studies and evaluation purposes only). This event will be held at the Loews' Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando.

What You Will Learn

MBC is a relatively new and flexible choice modeling approach for solving a variety of multi-check (combinatorial) menu-selection problems. Examples include: choosing options to put on an automobile, selections from a restaurant menu, banking options, configuring an insurance policy, purchasing bundled vs. a la carte services including mobile phones, internet, and cable. Using the MBC software requires expertise in terms of experimental design for conjoint exercises, developing MBC surveys using advanced HTML/Javascripting, and some data processing to prepare the files in .csv-format for analysis within MBC. MBC has a built-in simulator and can also automatically export Excel simulators.

Registration Fees

The two-day Menu-Based Choice Workshop costs $1,200 per participant. Breakfasts, lunches, and snacks are included. All workshop fees must be received by Sawtooth Software prior to the start of the session. Registered attendees get a discount rate at the workshop venue. See the venue tab for more information.

Worry-Free Cancellation Policy

Due to current Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) concerns, our worry-free cancellation policy for this event is as follows:

  •  US $100.00 (waived) cancellation fee if cancellation is made before 4 weeks prior to the start of the workshop.
  • US $300.00 (waived) cancellation fee if cancellation is made between 4 weeks and 1 week prior to the start of the workshop.
  • No refund if cancellation is made less than 1 week prior to the start of the workshop. However, we will apply your full registration fee to a future Sawtooth Software training event.
  • If a ban on travel or ban on meetings of our workshop size is issued by Orlando, Florida, or the US federal government, then a full refund will be given.

PC Laptop Required

Because this is a hands-on software training event, you will need to bring a laptop PC (configured with Windows) to use during the workshop. A few days before start of the workshop we will email you the Sawtooth Software licenses you need, but you are responsible for providing your own computer. It is helpful if your computer also has Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, and Excel.

If you do not have access to a reliable PC laptop, find that IT restrictions prevent you from installing the required software, or simply prefer not to travel with your computer for security reasons, we have a limited number of rental laptops available for use at the workshop. These laptops are nice, newer models that come fully installed with all software required for the course. The cost for a rental laptop is $250. Rental must be arranged at least two weeks prior to the start of the workshop, and is subject to availability.

Disability Accommodation

Sawtooth Software is committed to providing equal access to our meetings for all attendees. If you are an attendee with a disability and require meeting room/program accommodations (wheelchair access, hearing assistance, etc.), please contact us at +1 801 477 4700 or by email at and a member of our staff will ensure that appropriate access arrangements are made. If you have specific disability-related needs for your hotel sleeping room, please be sure to communicate those directly to the hotel when you make your room reservation. In an effort to provide the highest quality of service to all attendees, we require that details of all access requests be communicated to our office at least 14 days in advance of the beginning of the meeting.
