Gerrit Leisle is a bachelor’s student in sports economics at Bielefeld University, focusing on resource allocation in health and therapy systems. Prior to his studies, he trained and worked as a physiotherapist for three years.

During this time, he noticed a recurring problem: many patients lack motivation to continue therapy exercises on their own. Digital health applications (DiGA), now available by prescription in Germany, have the potential to solve this issue—by boosting patient engagement. However, DiGA are rarely used in practice.

Gerrit’s research examines how physiotherapists can integrate DiGA into their daily treatment routines, instead of leaving patients to use them independently. Using Sawtooth Software, he is conducting a Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) study to explore which app features and contextual factors—based on UTAUT and TAM models—influence therapists’ willingness to adopt DiGA in outpatient care.
