Aaron Trachtenberg

Dr. Aaron Trachtenberg is a research fellow in the Clinician Investigator Program at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. He will be conducting research in the area of kidney transplantation while obtaining a post-graduate diploma in Health Technology Assessment from the University of Glasgow. His project centers on expanding the transplantation of kidneys from medically complex deceased donors to increase the number of patients who can benefit from this life-saving intervention. He will be synthesizing the existing evidence, engaging with patients for their perspective, and studying decision making around transplant offers. He is designing a choice-based conjoint / discrete choice experiment to understand the factors transplant candidates may consider when accepting an organ from a “complex donor”, such as time waiting on dialysis, expected longevity of the organ, or risk of death while waiting. The findings, along with market simulations, will be used to inform the creation of a “complex donor” kidney transplantation program that is acceptable to patients.

Aaron Trachtenberg graduated from the University of Manitoba MD program in 2015. After pursuing post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Calgary, he returned to the U of M and completed his Adult Nephrology fellowship in the summer of 2021. Prior to medical school, Dr. Trachtenberg obtained his BSc in Biopsychology from the University of Winnipeg and his DPhil in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He has contributed to original research in a variety of fields throughout his medical training.
