Alvan Ukachukwu

Alvan Ukachukwu studied Medicine at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and subsequently trained in Neurological Surgery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. He has been practicing as a Neurosurgeon in Nigeria since 2015.

Alvan is currently in the Global Health MSc. program at the Duke Global Health Institute, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA. He is engaged with the Duke Global Neurosurgery and Neurology division, a multi-national, multi-disciplinary team focused on reducing global inequities in neurosurgical access, manpower, resources and research through twinning, training and technological transfer.

His master's thesis aims to assess the perception of clinicians on the use of a near-infrared spectroscopy device as a clinical decision-support tool in managing traumatic brain injury in Uganda and other low- and middle-income countries. The study is a discrete choice experiment created with the Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) design.
