Avanish Madhavaram is an MD student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. As a member of the Clinical Scientist Training Program, he is also earning a MS degree concentrated in Health Services Research. Avanish is broadly interested in studying healthcare access, quality, and costs. His master's thesis focuses on the impact of centralization of complex cancer surgery on postoperative outcomes. He has prior experience using conjoint analysis to study treatment preferences for intermediate-risk prostate cancer.
Avanish is currently developing a discrete choice experiment to study patient and clinician preferences for the use of telemedicine in the postoperative setting. This study will examine trade-offs between convenience, quality, and safety to guide patient-centered postoperative care strategies. Through this work, Avanish will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, health economists, and biostatisticians. This project will help advance his long-term goal of designing care delivery models that align with patient values and address barriers in access to care.
