Axelle Francx

Axelle Francx is a PhD student in Economics at KU Leuven, specializing in environmental economics at the Center for Economics and Corporate Sustainability (CEDON). She holds a master's degree in economics from KU Leuven, where she developed both theoretical and empirical tools to analyze concrete economic problems.

Her current research is part of an interdisciplinary project aimed at developing a framework for individual-based valuation of biodiversity in policy implementation. Specifically, her work investigates how individual animals, plants, and ecotopes should be valued within environmental impact assessments, permitting processes, and legal sanctions. By utilizing the Best-Worst Scaling method, she aims to understand how experts in biodiversity assessment identify the most and least relevant criteria for valuing biodiversity damage. The ultimate goal of her research is to provide practical insights that assist policymakers in making better-informed decisions, ultimately contributing to more effective biodiversity conservation.
