Jean-Sébastien Matte is a Ph.D. candidate in Operations Management at Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University in Montréal, Canada and currently on a research visit at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands. His research interests are in behavioural economics and sustainable operations, focusing on fast fashion retail. Jean-Sébastien's focus is on bridging theory and practice by developing data-driven modelling and prescriptive optimization algorithms to help fashion retailers move towards more sustainable operations by combining consumer behaviour, assortment and inventory optimization models, and Life Cycle Assessment data.
His current project uses a choice-based conjoint (CBC) approach to characterize and quantify customers' preferences and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for specific sustainability attributes of fashion products. CBC results will be used as input to a product line design and pricing optimization problem highlighting trade-offs and benefits between sustainability innovation costs and business opportunities, as well as policy recommendations.
