Nao Shibata

Nao Shibata is a PhD researcher at the School of the Built Environment (Construction Management and Engineering), University of Reading, UK. Her work focuses on sustainable housing retrofits through the framework of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA), integrating environmental life cycle assessment (E-LCA), life cycle costing (LCC), and occupant-centred social aspects such as indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

She is particularly interested in applying discrete choice experiments (DCE) to capture household preferences and reveal how people make trade-offs in retrofit decisions. In her survey experiments, households will be asked to choose between retrofit options that vary in cost, energy savings, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort. The aim of her research is to generate evidence that informs policymakers, industry, and households in delivering cost-effective, sustainable, and occupant-centred housing retrofits.
