Thomas "Clark" Howell, MD, MSHS is a general surgery resident at Duke University Hospital. Prior to training at Duke, he attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before his medical journey, he spent seven years in Atlanta and completed a bachelor's in industrial engineering and a master's in health systems at the Georgia Institute of Technology while working as an engineer at UPS and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. While working in a healthcare administration data lab on mathematical and machine learning models, he is attending the Duke Divinity School's Theology, Medicine, and Culture program. His desire to enter this graduate certificate program was born from his desire to re-imagine the delivery of healthcare and consider the moral formation of surgical residents. He will be researching the virtues of surgeons and their relative importance with discrete choice analysis.
