Multiple choice question

Introduction

Multiple choice questions let respondents select one or several options from a list. The available types are single-select, single-select dropdown, and multi-select.

Response options

Enter options one by one or paste them directly from Excel or Word. To reuse an existing list, select it from the list dropdown above the response options. To add a special item — text entry ("Other, please specify") or exclusive ("None of the above") — click + Add special item at the bottom of the list, or click the options icon on an existing item and toggle the setting. See the Lists article for more.

Settings

Randomize response options

When enabled, all list items are randomized except for exclusive and text entry items, which stay at the bottom in their defined order. The order shown to each respondent is not saved in the data.

Set min/max selections

For multi-select questions, you can require respondents to select a specific number of options. For example, set both the min and max to 2 to ensure exactly two selections.

If the question is not marked as required but a min/max range is set, respondents who begin answering must either meet the range or clear their selections before moving on.

The range settings showing the min and max selections both set to two.
