Open-end question

Introduction

Open-end questions let respondents type into a text field. There are two types: single-line and multi-line.

Settings

Set character range

Define the minimum and maximum number of characters a respondent must enter.

For example, for a two-digit country code question, set both the min and max to 2. If the question is not required but a respondent begins answering, they must meet the range or clear the field before moving on.

The range settings showing the min and max characters both set to two.

Character counter

Shows respondents how many characters they've typed. If a character range is set, the counter displays progress toward the limit, such as 0/3000.

Set input box width

Only available for single-line only.

Sets the maximum width of the input field, which is useful for tailoring the field size to the expected response — smaller for zip codes, wider for email addresses. The field will never exceed either the value entered or the screen width, preserving mobile responsiveness. Test the width in live preview by typing a few characters.
